Buying a resale Wig/Topper

Ask Questions: Don’t be afraid to ask questions and for additional photos and videos. If you don’t know the person, ask around in the community to see if others have done a transaction with them before. Ask the page monitors of the pages/groups where the piece is listed or the retail seller that originally sold the wig/topper. Try not to rush! You want to get as much information as possible. Ask for current photos the owner has taken themselves. You can even ask to do a FaceTime call to better see the piece and verify that this person is actually selling what they claim to have. Pricing: As prices go up on new wigs, one would think that resale wigs would go up too, but alas, this is not the case. Even if you purchase a wig for $1,800 to $2,300, you will most likely not get more than $1,200 to $1,500 for it — even if the lace is not cut.

Inspection: Be sure to inspect your wig carefully! Try it on, feel the hair, and examine the lace, the hairline and the part. Move the hair around and look at the cap and lace to be sure no hair is missing and there are no holes. Turn the piece inside out and look over the cap and lace carefully. If there is an issue, try to send it back for a full refund. If you have not released the money to the seller it’s a bit easier, but you can always make a claim with PayPal if needed.

RED FLAGS!!
If seller will only do PayPal Friends & Family (F&F), Venmo, or Zelle, this is a big red flag! If you really want the piece, you can offer to pay the PayPal fees for Goods & Services, which gives you more protection in the case of a fraudulent transaction. If they don’t want to do that, walk away! There are SO many scammers in this community. It’s very sad, but true. People steal photos from other women’s listings and from the wig brands. This is why you want to make sure the person you are buying from is legitimate and truly does own the piece they are presenting. DO NOT send anything you are selling without having the payment, even if it’s on hold with PayPal (which often happens until the package is delivered).
